Chickencam

How fun is this? The Chickencam is up and running!

Roz

One of the extraordinarily talented producers at my day job came up with the idea to install a camera in my chicken coop so we can check in on our birds anytime of day or night. Christian did some research. I ordered a camera, and voila! Chickencam is born. Er, hatched.

Chickencam

The camera is mounted in an upper corner of the coop so you can see the ladies when they are most active.

MaryAnne

Water

Hungry Chickens

Chicken feed

Of course, that’s when they are eating and drinking.

Camera

Technology never fails to amaze me. This sturdy little camera can sit outside all year long and transmits images via wireless Internet into my home and out to the world. You can see Roz, MaryAnne and Susie Q in action by visiting the Web site “Elizabeth’s Chickens” and we’re working on placing the video stream directly onto Home to Homestead. And if you don’t see the flock, it’s probably because it’s cold and they are cozied up inside their coop!

You can get a behind-the-scenes look at the Chickencam installation here:

Have fun watching Chicken TV!

  1. I love chicken cam but find it fun to see other animals coming to the feeder. Tonight it was a bunny eating the straw and feed from outside the coop.

  4. I have watched Chickencam I saw a few animals around the chicken coop. I saw just to name a few a squrrel, a cat, a rabbit and a dog named Henry. This is so cool what chicken is who? Roz what color is she? Suzy what color is she? Marianne what color is she? They look so close up and looks like they are ready for there close up. This is so cool i watch this before I go to bed and watch Chickencam just to see if they come out or staying in the chicken coop where it is nice and warm. Add another camera so we can see inside the chicken coop and this camera rotates if there is one.

  5. Love watching the chicken cam, coop cleaning today I see. Very cold out there. Fun to watch the chickens waiting for you to come and open the gate for the day and put their food back out. Henry, such a good dog, not bothering the chickens and it looks like the chickens aren’t concerned about Henry either. Thanks for having the cam really enjoying it.

  6. What is the make and model of the Chicken Cam —There are so many out there, I am install one in my new coop-pen this spring, if it ever comes. Really enjoy watch it.

  7. The coolest thing about watching the chicken getting a close up on Chickencam then you can see them better and knowing the colors of that chicken or chickens and looking at them like for the first time and knowing when they stick their nose out of the chicken coop then you know they are coming out. I love Chickencam and seeing other animals besides the chickens and looking at cats, rabbits, squrrels, and knowing when they are there when their eyes glow in the dark.

  8. You should see my counselor face when I told her I found something to do when it’s 25 below zero, I watch chicken cam! So funny!

  9. When do we Elizabeth coming out to the Chickencam. I just see Jay taking out the food container and closing the door to the coop and seeing Henry around the chicken coop. I would like to see more of the chickens with a rotating camera if there is one to watch them from inside the coop. Then it would be more Chickencam watching that will be cool to watch hoping to see it soon or sometime in the summer when it warmer outside. If that is Jay outside hoping to see Elizabeth soon waving on Chickencam soon. Knowing when she is out in the coop. WOW AMAZING TOO COOL if this should happen.

  11. I enjoy watching and my husband teases me.I do think your rock needs a painting.Ya know like a pet rock.Painted like a ladybug or a puppy would be cute.

  12. I was watching at 2:15am … what else is there to do at that time on a Sunday morning?? 🙂 There were no chickens out for a late night snack; just the mice!

  13. I thought I’d let you know that your webcam isn’t working on the elizabethschickens.com. It shows the top of the picture but the rest of it is blank. It worked earlier today but late this afternoon it wasn’t working. Please check into it because I enjoyed watching it.

      • Elizabeth your chickencam isn’t working yet. It is stuck on 7:59 am. I think maybe the camera might be broken because the top of the picture shows but the rest of the picture is blank. Maybe the weather was too much for it.

      • Elizabeth I just checked your chickencam and now it is completely blank and there isn’t a time on it. Before there was a time and it just had the top of the picture so camera must of completely broken down. It might be that the camera couldn’t take this kind of weather. I hope you get it up and running real soon because I enjoyed watching your chickens.

  14. Is anybody else letting you know your elizabethschickencam not working anymore. I was just wondering since you told me it was up and running this morning but it isn’t. Only the top part of the picture shows and the rest of the picture is blank and it is stuck on 7:59 am this morning on 2/18/14.

  15. Do you have snow on the camera? Is this a problem I haven’t watched Chickencam because the screen looks like it has snow or something on it? Is this right snow on the camera or am I not doing something right? It also looks like daytime in the background. Did the camera freeze up too? I hope not

  16. Elizabeth I hope to meet you someday and see your Chickens and Chickencam soon. Which chickens are which Roz, Suzie Q, Marrianne. Did I spell there names right. I can’t forget your dog Henry and Jay soon. I am hoping you having some Super Bargains for Mall Of America I just can’t get enough of shopping here. Too many stores to shop and you have a lot of fun going into the stores and taking a look at what they have in the stores. By the way Chickencam is great Chickencam is cool I hope you can keep this up so we can see them in you backyard. Which chickens are which? WOW

  17. I would like to you talk more about you Chickencam on Twin Cities Live because I watch your show and sometimes your chickens are outside of the coop and the home audience can see your chickens in case they don’t know about your Chickencam webpage. These are the animals I do see outside the coop a cat, a rabbit, some mice, and sometimes during the day a squrrel sitting on top of the food the chickens eat out of. (if they don’t know about your Chickencam post something on you Twin Cities Live webpage if not already.) Cool Chickencam I love it the other night the chicken the dark chicken and Marrianne were sitting under the LED lights the other stuck it’s head in front of the other two. I think they were ready for a close up. I always see them during the day but not at night.

  18. Elizabeth I’m so happy your Chickencam is working again. I missed it. I’m amazed at how big your chickens are on Chickencam!! I missed you on TCL today. I hope you are feeling better. I hope you don’t plan on leaving TCL because I would miss your bubbly personality and your beautiful smile!! Take care.

  19. Such a nice husband you have to take care of your chickens at night, closing the gate to keep them safe. I know you already know that. Love the chicken cam!!

  20. Did your water heater break? Fun to watch when Henry comes out and the chickens don’t even care about him, and he doesn’t bother them.

  21. I like your Chickencam the chickens are still getting close to the Chickencam looking like they are still getting a close up if they are by the Chickencam camera. Hoping to see you in the Chickencam soon.

  22. I can’t wait until your new Chickencam is coming I love the Chickencam I hope you have bettter angles so that we can see the chickens inside the coop and going inside/outside and we can see the other animals too if they are around the coop. Good luck with your new Chickencam.

  23. Thanks for putting pictures of your chickens. Now we will know who they are and when come out of the chicken coop and when they are going into the coop. Thanks again for posting the pictures of your chickens.

  24. Hi Elizabeth;
I thought I’d let you know in case you didn’t know that your Chickencam isn’t working. It looks like it is the same problem as before when the power was out in your garage.
